Getting started with making care sheets = Congratulations on taking the first step to contribute to FishWiki by creating a care sheet! Creating a care sheet is a valuable way to share your knowledge and experiences with the community, helping fellow fish keepers provide optimal care for their aquatic companions. Follow the steps below to create a comprehensive and informative care sheet.
Step 1: Press the Edit Button
To begin creating your care sheet, locate the "Edit" button on the page and click on it. This will open the visual editor, allowing you to make changes and add content to the template.
Step 2: Fill in the Necessary Information
As you can see, you are now able to edit text on the page! Within the template, you will find various sections that require input. Carefully fill in each section with accurate and relevant information about the fish species you are creating a care sheet for. This includes details about their habitat, behavior, feeding habits, tank requirements, compatibility with other species, and any other important aspects of their care.
Step 3: Upload an Image
To enhance your care sheet and provide visual representation, you have the option to upload images of the fish you are creating a care sheet for. Images play a crucial role in helping readers visualize the fish's appearance and characteristics.
Follow these steps to upload images for your care sheet:
- Locate the menu button on the sidebar of the FishWiki website. It is typically represented by three horizontal lines or a similar icon.
- Click on the menu button to expand the sidebar and reveal additional options.
- Look for the "Upload a File" button within the sidebar menu. Click on it to initiate the image upload process.
- Choose the appropriate image file from your device by clicking on the "Browse" or "Choose File" button. Select a high-quality image that clearly showcases the fish's features.
- Before uploading the image, ensure that you name it appropriately. Use a descriptive and concise file name that reflects the species and helps others easily identify the image content. Avoid generic names or random strings of characters.
- Once you have selected the image and named it, click on the "Upload" or "Submit" button to upload the image to the FishWiki database.
Editing the Info Box
The info box is a crucial component of a care sheet on FishWiki, providing important details about a fish species at a glance. To update or modify the information in the info box, follow these steps:
Step 1: Locate the Info Box
Go to the Info Box. The info box typically includes parameters such as name, image, caption, lifespan, size, diet, tank size, temperature, pH, compatibility, temperament, and more.
Step 2: Click on the Edit Button
After pressing on the info box in the Visual Editor an edit button will pop up Within the info box section, look for the "Edit" button. Click on this button to enable editing of the info box parameters.
Step 3: Update the Parameters
Once you have clicked the edit button, the info box parameters will become editable. Modify the existing parameters to accurately reflect the updated information about the fish species. For example, you can change the lifespan, size, diet, tank size, or any other relevant details. For the Image parameter please enter the file name for the image you have uploaded e.g. CongoTetra1.png
Adding Additional Sections to Your Care Sheet
- Within the Visual Editor, navigate to the location in the care sheet where you want to add a new section.
- Look for the "Heading" button at the top of the editor toolbar.
- Click on the "Heading" button and choose the appropriate heading level for your new section from the available options. This will automatically create a section heading and set the appropriate formatting.
- Type the desired title for the section in the newly created heading. For example, if you want to create a section titled "Breeding Tips," type "Breeding Tips" in the heading.
- Press the Enter or Return key to create a new line beneath the section heading.
- Add the content for the section below the heading. Provide relevant information, tips, or instructions related to the specific topic of the section.
- Repeat steps 3 to 8 to add additional sections as needed.
Step 4: Review and Save
Once you have filled in all the necessary information and uploaded an image, take a moment to review your care sheet for accuracy and completeness. Ensure that all sections are adequately filled and that the information provided is clear and concise. If needed, make any final adjustments or edits. Once saved all your work will be sent over to Admins for approval and if approved will be published!!
